Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. At the age of five when she left for Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma was only six when she made the decision to pursue a career as an actress. She was trained for many years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford where she studied acting and singing. When she was ten, she was performing and taking the lead in various Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford teacher of drama. David Heyman announced to Emma that, after auditioning for eight times Emma and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first appearance in a film was as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The movie set records in terms of its opening and weekend ticket sales, and it was the most-recorded 2001 movie. The film was praised by critics who praised the film, particularly the young performers. The widely distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma received five nominations for her impressive performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of a Film.
